(Without Pretending You’re a Completely New Person on January 1st)
Let’s be honest: New Year’s is the holiday where everyone collectively decides to lie to themselves for 48 hours.
“This is my year.”
“I’m going to the gym every day.”
“No sugar. Ever.”
“New me. New body. New life.”
“I’m going to drink a gallon of water a day and eat only air and inspiration.”
If Type 2 diabetes has taught you anything, it’s that your body does not give a single peppermint-scented damn about January 1st. It cares about patterns, stress, sleep, self-permission, and whether you’re still pretending you’re okay with carrying the emotional load of 17 people.
So let’s talk about creating magic in the New Year—real magic, not the kind powered by shame, rules, or a planner that weighs more than a small toddler.
This article is pulled directly from your January membership coaching, where we teach the Crossroads Decision Method—the art of feeling into choices that expand you versus choices that restrict you. And oh, does this apply to New Year’s resolutions, sugar gremlins, gym guilt, and the fantasy of waking up January 2nd as a morning person.
Ready? Chin up, sparkles on, truth incoming.
The Problem With New Year’s Resolutions: They’re Built on Self-Rejection
Most resolutions start from a place of:
“I don’t like who I am.”
“I’m not doing enough.”
“I’m behind.”
“I need to be fixed.”
Your nervous system hears that and immediately thinks:
“Oh, danger! She hates herself again. Let’s make cravings louder.”
Cortisol goes up. Blood sugar follows. You blame yourself.
Your RAS starts scanning for failures.
And boom—Happy New Year, glucose spike!
The only kind of magic that works long-term is magic born from self-honor, not self-attack.
That’s why we don’t do resolutions in Divine Disruption or REACH.
We do decisions.
A decision is not a wish. A decision is a frequency shift.
The January Coaching Theme: Decisions Are Spiritual Acts
Inside the membership this month, we teach the Crossroads Method, which asks a simple question:
“Does this choice expand me or restrict me?”
Expansive choices feel like:
• relief
• calm
• curiosity
• alignment
• possibility
• a soft yes from the soul
Restrictive choices feel like:
• pressure
• shame
• dread
• tightness
• fear of failure
• self-threat
Notice something?
Most New Year’s resolutions fall into the “restrictive” bucket, yet women are out here forcing themselves into restrictive plans while their hormones are screaming, “MA’ AM, PLEASE.”
This year, we do it differently.
Creating New Year’s Magic Through Tiny Expansive Decisions
Magic is not created through grand gestures.
Magic is created through micro-aligned choices that compound.
Here’s the cheat sheet from January’s membership coaching:
Magic-Making Decision #1: “How do I want to feel this year?”
Not what do you want to accomplish.
Not what weight you want to lose.
Not what foods you want to avoid.
How do you want to feel?
Because your feelings determine your frequency.
Your frequency determines your actions.
Your actions determine your consistency.
Your consistency determines your glucose.
This is nervous-system regulation, not woo-woo fluff.
Magic-Making Decision #2: “What is one thing I’m no longer available for?”
Examples for women with T2D:
“I am no longer available for guilt around food.”
“I am no longer available for dieting culture nonsense.”
“I am no longer available for emotional martyrdom.”
“I am no longer available for ignoring my own body.”
Restriction activates survival mode.
Clarifying what you’re unavailable for activates sovereignty.
And sovereignty, darling, stabilizes blood sugar.
Magic-Making Decision #3: “What is the smallest shift that would change everything?”
Not the biggest.
Not the hardest.
Not the one your cousin Karen swears by.
The smallest shift.
Examples:
• a 10-minute walk after dinner
• a 2-minute breathing ritual
• journaling for 90 seconds
• choosing fiber first
• going to bed 20 minutes earlier
• saying “No, thank you” without the apology paragraph
Tiny shifts change chemistry. Chemistry changes identity. Identity changes behavior.
Welcome to magic.
Magic-Making Decision #4: Choose Your January Word
In the membership, we choose a word for the month.
Not a personality transplant for the whole year.
Examples:
Ease.
Rise.
Rest.
Trust.
Bold.
Peace.
Align.
Your RAS (Reticular Activating System) begins scanning for that word everywhere, which restructures your attention, your behavior, your emotional patterns, and therefore… your glucose.
This is how we create magic scientifically.
Now Let’s Talk Food — Because New Year’s Buffets Are a Crime Scene
Everyone else is hungover and grazing on cheese cubes like domesticated deer.
You, however, walk in with dignity and a plan.
Here are your blood-sugar-friendly, New-Year’s-approved food moves:
Fiber first
You knew I’d say it.
Vegetables, berries, legumes if you tolerate them. It’s the Beyoncé of glucose stability.
Protein next
It’s the rock star of glucose stability~just don’t over do it. Kidneys like balance.
The “Worth It?” Question
Ask: “Is this dessert delicious? Or is it just holiday peer pressure wearing sprinkles?”
If it’s delicious → savor it. If it’s pressure → chin up, “No thank you.”
The “Don’t Start Hungry” Rule
Never show up to a party ravenous unless you’re intentionally conducting a glucose science experiment (which I strongly advise against).
The 10-Minute Post-Party Walk
Yes, even in winter.
Bundle up and pretend you’re starring in a Hallmark movie.
New Year’s Stress Reducers to Keep Cortisol From Hijacking Your Resolutions
Borrowed from your Stress Busters section:
The 4-2-6 breath
4 seconds in,
2-second hold,
6 seconds out.
Repeat five times.
Lowers cortisol.
Lowers glucose.
Lowers panic about goals.
The 60-Second Shake-Off
Shake your hands. Shake your shoulders. Bounce lightly.
Your nervous system resets faster than your aunt drains a champagne bottle.
The Permission Slip Script
“I’m allowed to do this my way.”
“I don’t need to match anyone’s expectations.”
“My body and my peace matter.”
Physiology follows permission.
Gift Yourself Something Useful (Not a Punishing Resolution)
Instead of a resolution, give yourself:
• A supportive journal
• A cozy sweater for after-dinner walks
• A hypnosis session (hello, membership!)
• A kitchen tool that makes eating easier
• A free strategy call with me
• Or—if you’re ready—check out our Divine Disruption Membership!
No guilt.
No pressure.
Just alignment.
The January Truth You Need to Hear
You do not become a new person at midnight. You choose the next version of yourself, decision by decision, breath by breath, moment by moment.
Magic isn’t created by forcing yourself into a restrictive plan.
Magic is created by becoming the woman who believes she’s worthy of the life she longs for.
That is the secret.
That is Divine Disruption Workshop.
That is RE²A²CH For Results.
That is UNLOCK The Six Gifts.
That is your January theme.
And that is your New Year’s magic. It’s here where I curtsy and wave good-night! Or, drop the mic. However you want to imagine it!
